To insure a nice fit, be sure the lower portion of the torso is perfectly round in order to fit into a circle that is the opening in the top of the hip casting. Cut a spacer to fit into the hip fore and aft. Place a turnbuckle in the spacer by cutting out an area to fit and tongue depressors (or other means) to hold the turnbuckle in place. The eyebolt extending from the turnbuckle must be in the center of the circle or in the center of the space above the circle of the hip. The ball must be have some filler (dowel or nails inserted cross wise to the axis nail) in order to restrict the eyebolt from moving along the axis of the nail which holds the eyebolt in the center of the ball. This is a true ball and socket joint. It may also be used for the upper part of the thigh or at the shoulder.
